Southwest Opportunities Center Inc(SOC) is a private, non-profit organization that is dedicated to providing quality services to adults with disabilities. Services are provided within five programming areas:pre-vocational, day service, senior services, community employment, and supportive home care. Door-to-door transporation services are offered to all individuals who receive programming at Southwest Opportunities Center's facility. All vehicles meet ADA requirements and are equipped with wheelchair lifts.

Prevocational Services-are designed to prepare individuals for integrated employment. An emphasis is placed on developing appropriate work skills and behaviors through paid work opportunities. Workers will have the opportunity to develop their skills in a variety of jobs including folding, collating/inserting, bulk mailing, labeling, packaging, sub-assembly, metals shop, document destruction, industrial sorting, quality control inspection, etc. The work floor is supervised by staff so that workers can experience and adapt to a realistic employment atmosphere. Pre Vocational instructional activities are also offered in preparation to working successfully in the community. In addition, community work opportunities are available through our cleaning service and retail thrift store. Participants have the opportunity to experience working in the community under full supervision and direction from staff.

Day Service-The goal is to provide structured and unstructured programming through meaningful activities designed to increase self-confidence, independence, and community awareness. Individual or group activities are offered in such areas as social development, person enrichment, recreation and leisure and community outings. Work opportunities may also be a small aspect of programming, however it is not the primary focus. The atmosphere is inviting and relaxing for individuals to interact with their peers and develop social skills. For individuals who nee a more intense level of support, personal care services are provided.

Seniors Program- As individuals needs and desires change, so does their focus in life. Golden Opportunities is designed to provide alternative choices for those individuals whose interests and physical stamina to work is no longer a primary focus in their day. The program provides an opportunity for individuals 55 years and older to stay active, involved and connected to their community. Programming opportunity focus on fun/enjoyable enrichment activities offered in a casual, relaxed atmosphere. Activities offer new experiences and old favorites that are geared toward individual interests and offer community involvement.

Community Employment- This program assists individuals in obtaining competitive employment by matching interests with abilities. This goal is accomplished through a team effort between the individual and the placement specialist. These services are provided through job placement and the Supported Employment Program. The State of Wisconsin's Division of Vocational Rehab(DVR) refers individuals to SOC for the following services: Vocational Assessment, Job Placement, and Supported Employment Programming.

Supportive Home Care-Residential Counselors provide support to individuals which allow them to live independently in their home. Services are specialized to the individuals needs and abilities therefore, services vary. The following supports /services are provided in the home or community setting: Monitoring activities of daily living such as shopping, budgeting, menu planning, scheduling activities, housekeeping, laundry etc; monitoring of self-care skills, monitoring medical needs and assisting with establishing medical appointments, encouraging community involvement, recreation participation, and ensuring individuals are living safely within the community.
