Description:
The Collins Senior Citizens Club was organized on November 22, 1977, under auspices of the Manitowoc County Commission on Aging. It was the 12th club to be organized. Everett Schwalbe was the 1st President and Clarence Poe was the 1st Vice-president. Meetings were held the 4th Monday of each month, at the 7:00 p.m. at he Collins Fire Hall. There were 33 members the first year. Anyone over the age of 55 living in Collins or vicinity is encouraged to become a member.
At present the club has joined together with the Reedsville Senior Citizens at the Reedsville Manor , 431 Madison St, Reedsville. They now meet each month at 1:30 p.m. on the third Tuesday. In December we have a Christmas Party, exchange gifts, etc. We try to have someone from the County Office on Aging and other organizations speak to us on subjects of interest to senior citizens. The county nurse takes blood pressure readings several times a year. Cards, usually sheephead, are played and a light lunch is served.
