The Center for Deaf-Blind Persons serves those who have some degree of loss in both hearing and sight. We understand the struggles confronting these individuals and their families. We help people to achieve as much independence as possible and become active members of the community.
Services offered are as follows: Assessments - To determine the individual's current skills and needs prior to training. Rehabilitation Training - Can be in one or all of the following areas: alternative communication, adaptive independent living, adaptive technology, computer training, leisure/tactile sensitivity/fine motor skills development, and orientation and mobility. Pre-Vocational & Vocational Services - Work etiquette training, job development/placement, job coaching and follow-up. Weekly Support Group - Meets Mondays and is open to anyone with a dual sensory loss. Monthly Social Group W.I.S.H. (With Impaired Sight and Hearing) - This monthly social group meets primarily the second Saturday of the month. Older Adult Presentations and Services - In addition to one-on-one services, interactive group presentations are available. Community Support Service Providers - Shopping assistance; mail and general reading; assistance at the airport, bus depot or train depot; assistance with exercising; assistance with housing search, visiting/socializing, and assistance with special projects. Public Education and Technical Assistance - Consultations to family member, professionals, and others; presentations to the general public; comprehensive information and referral services. iCanConnect - distance telecommunications equipment program for eligible individuals. Includes assessment of needs, acquiring equipment, installation/setup of equipment upon receipt, and training at no cost to qualifying individuals.
Eligibility: Dual sensory loss of both vision and hearing.
