Description:
Volunteers are men and women of all ages and backgrounds. They are special people who give of themselves to help others. They are men and women who find a few hours each week to give to others and show they care. Home Hospice Volunteers are people who want to make life more meaningful by investing themselves in the well-being of others.
The Home Hospice Volunteers assist the patient and family by offering the following services:
- Providing respite for caregivers by staying with the patient while the caregiver is away from their loved one
- Help with shopping or running errands
- Give companionship and support to both the patient and family
All Volunteers working with the patients have completed an extensive training program. In the class they examine their own attitudes and feelings concerning death and discuss the physical and emotional needs of patients and their families. Communication and listening skills are also addressed in the training.
Some volunteers have a regularly scheduled time each week to provide respite or companionship.
Others prefer to contact the families to set up a time for the week that services are needed,or some even prefer to use the volunteers on a as need basis.
